If you go abroad, watch out for the elevators.
If you live in the US, you might expect that the elevator doors have sensors, and will open when they touch one of your limbs. I would like to issue this warning, and I have the bruises to prove it! Get in Quick! The elevator doors will continue to close even if they are crushing both of your arms. It's like being in a trash compactor. They keep squeezing you until they draw blood. Do not extend your hand to delay take off. You will lose it! While being crushed the second time, I took aggressive action and started kicking the doors. This seemed to minimize the damage, the doors did retract, though I do have nice greenish bruises on both my arms at this moment. Souvenirs from my trip to Cyprus.
Also, do not assume the toilets work the same way. Another story for another day.

Don't assume that elevator doors in the US will not attack you. When my daughter was very small, I took her to a shopping mall to buy her shoes, books, and a new outfit. We were making a day of it and stopped for a snack as well. Leaving the food court, we boarded the elevator. I didn't notice, but inside the elevator, my child was resting her hand on the door. When the doors opened, her hand disapopeared into the slot. She screamed. Instinctively, I pulled on her arm. Time stood still. The hand was there. No visible damage. When I reported this incident to the mall office, they took my statement. They seemed concerned. and they continued to operate the elevator without any inspection or warnings. True story.
