Night Sweats/ Hypnotic Climate Control

This article is about Night Sweats. This happens when you have a Hot Flash at night, it causes you to sweat profusely, and then you wake up!

I researched this topic a few years ago, when I discovered that Hypnosis can relieve hot flashes.

There is a technique I use to quench the hot flash, which uses some trigger words and a hand motion. All you have to do is say the word and make the motion, and go on with your life, because it stops the hot flash after a few seconds!

Now I also discovered a tea that can reduce hot flashes which occur at night, so you don't have to wake up so often at night.

Recipe: fill tea cup less than full, with boiling water. Add 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and 2 tablespoons of honey. Stir. Drink! It tastes something like hot apple cider!

Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) is amazing! I have heard it used medicinally for all kinds of things! Drinking a glass of hot water with ACV and honey is an amazing way to reduce morning sickness, gas, AND Hot Flashes.  If you drink it twice per day, you can eliminate hot flashes and night sweats. I used this along with the Hypnotic Climate Control previously described. I worked for me. What a relief!

So try this and let me know! Just leave a comment below. Thanks!

Hypnotic Images

I love to use staircase imagery in my hypnosis sessions. I just pinned a photo of a staircase on my facebook page. It has stairs leading up and then 2 staircases diverge in opposite directions. This is a really good way for people to explore the results of making 2 different decisions in their life!

I also like to use a staircase going down a staircase in order to deepen a trance. Though it really doesn't matter whether it goes up or down.  Trance isn't actually a vertical thing, so you just go further and further, not necessarily deeper and deeper.

trance is just a journey through your own imagination!

The Mesmerizing Truth

I would like to tell you a True tale about a Great Man and a Grievous miscarriage of Justice!

A story based in Fact, in Science.

Franz Anton Mesmer was born in Germany in 1734. He studied Music, History, Law, Astronomy and Medical Science. He became a healer, learning all the Modern Techniques of the day, like purging, bleeding, and how to administer the correct amount of opium and other potions.

Yes! He was a Healer. And an observer, a scientist, considered a Genius by the many fortunate souls who were healed by his methods.

Mesmer was inspired by a priest named Father Hell. Yes! Father Hell was a popular healer in the 18th Century. Father Hell had performed miracles of healing in the public square and all were invited to come, to watch, and to be healed by all manner of Disease.  Father Hell used his faith to heal hundreds of followers. His faith and a metal cross of grand height. Reports say that a line would form in the square and the unfortunate Sick would come to him one at a time, stand before Fr. Hell, Fr. Hell would touch him (or her) with the monstrous cross, he (or she) would fall down as if Dead, then rise up when Fr. Hell commanded, completely Healed!

Mesmer, who was a man of science and letters, deduced that the healings were not generated by the Power of Faith, but were instead induced by the Metal Cross. He suspected that there was an invisible magnetic fluid contained in every living thing, which provided perfect health if flowing properly, but would severly compromise the body with some affliction if there was a blockage. Mesmer then devised many methods using magnets or iron rods, even magnetizing other objects so that he could influence the Animal Magnetism of every individual who came to him with any affliction of the flesh. He healed hundreds of people with his methods!

Then, one fateful day, a committee arrived, Ben Franklin among them. Dr. Guillotine was also a member of this committe appointed by the French Academy of Science to investigate Mesmer's methods. Having observed the wonderous methods without any insight, they asserted that the healings were the result of Mere Imagination!

This committee dismissed Franz Anton Mesmer as Charlatan!

They did not recognize his Genius. But his followers did. They continued to use and refine his methods and now correctly recognize Mesmer as the Father of Hypnosis.

Why was hypnosis invented?

This is an interesting question. There are many applications for which hypnosis is the best choice, and sleeping problems are among the first that come to mind. Because hypnosis is a natural state and we are all in hypnosis just before sleep and just after waking, it leads to sleep very quickly and easily. Many people listen to a CD or MP3 player while preparing to go to sleep.

But I don't think hypnosis was invented. How could something natural be invented? It took some time and imagination to find out how to use this receptive state for positive benefit. I think the first one to discover it was Mom. Remember Mom saying I'll kiss it and make it better? Mom was using positive intention, expectation and suggestion to take away the sting of a cut or scrape. I knew how to hypnotize others before I had a child, but when I first kissed a boo-boo, I knew mothers had been doing this for thousands of years.

So who was the first to use hypnosis? This is very hard to establish. They have found some hieroglyphics that seem to contain information about a healing method where the client lies down and the practitioner talks to them. Sounds like hypnosis to me.  But they never wrote down the conversations that mothers had with their children. So I conclude the mother of hypnosis is ... Mom!

I must've gotten hypnotized!

I attended the NGH convention last weekend. And this morning, for the second day in a row, I am waking up on fire! I feel so creative, I can't even write down all my ideas fast enough!

I'm wondering, Did I get hypnotized?  Yes, at least 10 times! It was fantastic! I especially liked the Morning Hypnosis with Matthew Zinder. I was able to attend on Saturday morning, so I heard the feedback from people who attended the previous day (he presented on all 3 days). There were several people who came back, because it was so energizing and yet relaxing at the same time.

Some additional highlights for me were:
Roxanne Louise with Jingles, Rap, and Walking Mantras,
John Weir  with Be a Hypno-preneur,
Mitch Nielsen with Conversational Hypnosis, and
Laurie B. with The Journey to Improving Your Vision.

I'm definitely getting better every day in every way:

In the morning I start wash my face and apply moisturizer saying, "My skin is always smoothe, firm and youthful." Then I massage my face the way Stephanie Ho showed us in her seminar, Hypno-beauty.

Then I workout with my personal trainer, Connie Jo Russo at PMR elite Fitness and repeat over and over, "I'm thinning my middle, my middle is thin!" Connie is very motivational (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oX_tAxJYKMM)!

Then I update my blogs or write pages for my upcoming book, thinking, I have something of value to offer! That is a mantra that I learned from Roxanne Louise in her seminar about Jingles. She calls it a Walkiing Mantra, because you can repeat them while walking. The rhythm helps you to remember it.

And I want to say thanks to my brilliant co-presenter, Michael Raugh. He really put the icing on the cake at the convention for me. He is a great presenter, AND an uber-geek who recorded, mixed, pressed, burned, and packaged our first product, called Magnificent Memory.

Stay tuned, as we are going to present something amazing and magnificent again next year!

Can One Session Change Your World?

Hypnosis is really amazing, but BIG NEWS, it could take more than ONE session.

Yes it's true. It could take multiple sessions to make a PERMANENT change.

If you have had a bad habit for 20 or 30 years, it may take 3 or 4 sessions to transform that unwanted behavior behavior into something positive ande productive.

How can hypnosis help you, your friends, or loved ones?

The most obvious answer is that hypnosis is very effective for quitting smoking and breaking other habits. It is superb for reducing stress and tension. This means that it helps your immune system.

It can predispose you to more positive thoughts and a optimistic viewpoint. This is also good for your health and longevity, as optimists live longer and healthier lives.

Hypnosis is a useful tool to get over irrational fears, like fear of heights or fear of driving over bridges. Or impractical fears like fear of flying. It also is effective for reducing "test anxiety," which is nothing more than a fear of taking a test and failing!

If you want to make a change, hypnosis can be effective. Of course if you, or Aunt Betty don't want to change, you can't be forced into changing. But if you do want to change, than hypnosis can make it easier for you. And it's a smoothsd transition when it's easy. Isn't it?

Emil Coue said that "If you believe a thing to be easy, it becomes so." He was a French pharmacist who learned hypnosis from some of Mesmer's followers.

Hypnosis is a very creative and resourceful state. That's why it can help you to come up with new solutions to a longstanding problem.

I don't see any downside to trying it. After all, practice makes perfect. Most smokers have to "Quit" multiple times before it becomes permanent, but they learn something about themselves every time. So even if it didn't work, it would help prepare you for a smoother transition in the future.

Digestion and Hypnosis

In a recent article in John Hopkins Health Alert, it says:

The symptoms of digestive disorders can be alleviated, and often completely eliminated, with the right combination of medication, dietary changes, exercise, weight loss, stress reduction, and, as a last resort, surgery.

It seems that hypnosis can help with several of these, especially exercise, weight loss, dietary changes, and stress reduction. Hypnosis is the best method I know of to reduce stress. Self-hypnosis done on a daily basis has many physical benefits, all due to the reduction of cortisol, which is a byproduct of prolonged stress. Hypnosis can help someone establish a regular exercise routine, and stay motivated. It also helps with weight loss, because it can facilitate dietary changes necessary to maintain a healthy diet. Just imagine how beneficial it would be to eliminate cravings for unhealhy foods, establish cravings for healthy alternatives, and diminish the appetite in general!

If you need a hypnotist, you can use NGH.net to find one located near your zip code.

According to this research, these are the conditions that can be alleviated this way:
Crohn's disease
diarrhea
diverticulosis and diverticulitis
gallstones
gastritis
irritable bowel syndrome
ulcerative colitis
ulcers

Hypno-birthing

It was on TV last night, on the news. We actually saw Heather Van Nest during labor. She thought she would give hypnosis a try after seeing several women on a video going through labor without pain!

Heather did not use any pain medication during labor. She said there was a little discomfort towards the very end of labor, but for her, it was "tolerable."

I am always amazed at how many wonderful things can be accomplished with hypnosis!

Walking Craze

Everywhere I look, I am reading about the benefits of walking!

Walking is a great exercise. It's good for body, mind, and spirit. The Chinese believe it helps to balance your yin and yang energies.

It's cheap and easy: no special equipment is required, although I hear walking sticks make it a more demanding exercise, and help tone the arm muscles, not just legs and gluts.

I like to walk in the cool of the morning. That's the best time around here, as it is often too hot in the middle of the afternoon.

If you want to control your weight and decelerate the effects of aging, you only need to walk 30 minutes per day, 4 times per week!

Many of my clients seek hypnosis to stay motivated and establish a walking habit, as well as getting fitter and fitting into tight jeans!

Downsized Again

I got downsized again. From a position in a corporation. I worked there for 2 years, after getting downsized from a nonprofit position 2.5 years ago.

I feel like eating brownies.

OK. Now I'm ready to expand my horizons and serve more clients and students with my own business, Enlightened Hypnosis.

And I have reduced 5 pounds, so downsizing can be advantageous!

Remember where you left your glasses?

I misplaced my glasses, again!

2 things that have to do with aging! (vison and memory)

I definitely need more hypnosis.

Hypnosis enhances your memory. It have heard it can also improve your vision and hearing temporarily. They say this works temporiarily, as it has long been known to affect the circulation and better circulation can improve your sensory perception. But I know hypnotists who have used it to improve vision maybe not permanently, but definitely over the long-term.

And hypnosis affects your beliefs about what is possible. That is what my next workshop will be about. Improving your memory with hypnosis and other techniques.

Hot Flashing Hypnosis

I am reading a book about menopause. I thought it would be helpful, since many of my clients are experiencing some of the symptoms associated with this process. (you know I'm too young!)

A No-nonsense Guide to Menopause by Barbara Seaman and Laura Eldridge is a pretty good exploration about HRT, herbs, vitamins, folk remedies, and superstitions about the various aspects of this remarkable stage of life.

The book mentions hypnosis on page 58:

"Other alternative methods being investigated for treating hot flashes include magnets, acupuncture, and hypnosis. A 2004 study from Texas reported that hypnosis significantly reduced flashing and sleep disturbance in participants. "

Then it explains how no studies have supported the effectiveness of acupuncture or magnets on this particular experience, so I can't explain why they are even included in this paragraph entitled, "Look Into My Eyes," in this chapter about Hot Flashes.

Hot flashes are particularly difficult to treat, as the biological cause is unknown and it seems in other cultures, women do not share in this curious form of energy surge.

The study mentioned is footnoted thusly:

Elkins, Marcus, Palamara, Stearns, "Can Hypnosis Reduce Hot Flashes in Breast Cancer Survivors? A Literature Review," American Journal of Hypnosis, 2004.

Hypnotic Fountain of Youth

It’s all how you look at it! One of the last 2 surviving WWI veterans died yesterday. It said in the newspaper, he was in good health and took no medications except eye drops. He leaves behind a wife, who is 100 years old, and a caregiver. Harry Landis was 108, and died after a short illness.

I’m listening to Andrew Weil on CD, Healthy Aging, Your Guide to Optimum Physical and Spiritual Well-being, although he feels most anti-aging efforts are hooey. He reports most centenarians are female, with poor eyesight and hearing, and of course, feisty personalities. He makes it sound unpleasant to live that long, but it is all in your perspective. I can hear Deepak Chopra describing the same woman, but in a much more positive way, as he did in Ageless Body, Timeless Mind. In it he describes habits that most long-lived people share. In Weil’s book he says that the factors most highly correlated to long life are: physical activity and community involvement (social connectedness). I assert that the mind is the biggest factor, so it makes sense to keep it healthy by physical activity and social interaction. It’s also helpful to look at aging in a positive way and viewing the benefits, not just the disadvantages. There are many things that are considered more valuable as they get older, like antique furniture, cheese, wine and whiskey. We live in a throw-away society now, but in the past, old things were considered better, because they were broken in already and had lasted long enough to prove their superiority over other instruments. Yes violins are considered more valuable when aged properly. And I have seen carpenters who prefer an old trusted tool to one of the new-fangled electric ones. Shoes are more comfortable when broken in, too. I’m sure I could think of more examples. Any ideas?

I’m sure luck has a lot to do with longevity. If you avoid dying while a reckless youth, you are fortunate. But after a certain age it is your habits that will carry you through or do you in.

Hypnosis helps you develop and maintain salubrious habits. See philologsblog for the definition of salubrious. See "Hypnotic Eloquence" below for Deepak Chopra's tips for healthy continuation. (I need a more positve term for "aging.")

Hypnosis also helps you to discard negative, limiting beliefs. That will be discussed in future articles.

I will go into all this much more deeply at my next presentation…
I will let you know when that occurs. I will probably present this before the convention. I think the Hypnotic Fountain of Youth will be a topic of interest around here.

Young and blonde

Youthanize with hypnosis!

I am developing a workshop about how to stay youthful using hypnosis. I hate to bring this up, but we are all getting older and weird things are happening to me and I don’t want to accept it that I’m just getting older and that’s the way things are going to be, and things are only going to get worse! You know how I hate catastrophizing! But let’s be negative for a minute here, so we can figure out how to stop all these negative expectations of aging.

Deepak Chopra really helped me with his book, Ageless Body, Timeless Mind. He states that there are no universal symptoms of aging. Many things associated with age are related to bad diet and bad habits.

The simple aches and pains I sometimes experience are not from aging, but from inactivity. So I have joined a gym. This decade has been wonderful for me and the next will be even better, I’m sure. But I have to take action now. I am just very aware of the different expectations of men and women as they get older. I am also aware of cultural differences. Our American culture worships Youth and Beauty, and our ideas of Beauty are based on youth. Young people are thin usually, and many white children are blond. I know many white people with dark hair who had blond hair as children. That’s why “blondes have more fun!” That was a slogan for a brand of hair color many years ago, yet that idea has insinuated itself into our culture and our consciousness. And hair color has even advanced so that many people with dark hair can experience the fun of a Blond lifestyle. And recently, hair coloring has become popular with men as well as women.

(So why are there so many jokes about blondes being dumb? They pertain, I think, to females only…)

Hypnotic Aging?
I prefer, “Hypnotic Youthing.”
“Hypnotic Youthanization.”
Or could I say Youthanize without bringing up too many negative images?
Please take the poll on VerbalImpact.blogspot.com and tell me which title you prefer. Or send me a comment with your suggestions!

Thanks!
