Magnificent Mnemonic Devices

Do you need help remembering phone numbers?

I remember calling directory assistance, speaking to a live operator, and repeating a number over and over until I dialed the pizzaria and made an order! We don't even "dial" anymore.

The number would be gone before the pizza arrived. That's called short-term memory!

In order to remember something, and move it to long-term memory, especially a number, you have to elaborate on it.

Elaborate means to think about it, analyze it, or chunk it. It's easier to remember 4 or even 5 chunks of information, instead of 9 numbers.

There's a system for  remembering numbers by assigning sounds to the letters and then making words. It was originated by Mr. Finagle. This is it , for those who want to remember their numbers by finagling with them. That means you don't have to have the number in your cell phone's contact book! You'll actually know the number so you can call it from any phone!

1 - b or p
2 - c or k
3 - f or v
4 - g or j
5 - l
6 - m
7 - n
8 - r
9 - t or d
0 - s

That means my phone number, 727-946-1531 converts to Nikon-Sigma-ball fab.

Try to make a picture out of the words and you'll never forget!

Remember Me?

Another study shows that stress interferes with short-term memory.

I just read a great article with some memory tips by Jane Thurnell-Read:

http://www.healthandgoodness.com/article/improve-memory.html

She also has some stress reduction tips. I recommend daily self-hypnosis and/or meditation for stress reduction.

Memory can be enhanced with hypnosis. Learning, the acquisition of new knowledge and esperience can be accellerated with hypnosis.

Memory Fog

Good news about Menopausal Memory Fogginess:

It is temporary!

The John Hopkins Medicine Newsletter reports that

"The brain fogginess that many women complain about during the transition to menopause is real, according to a new study. Fortunately, the study found that women's memories rebound after menopause is complete."

So since stress and tension make memory problems worse, just relax, use self-hypnosis, and don't worry about your memory!

Remember where you left your glasses?

I misplaced my glasses, again!

2 things that have to do with aging! (vison and memory)

I definitely need more hypnosis.

Hypnosis enhances your memory. It have heard it can also improve your vision and hearing temporarily. They say this works temporiarily, as it has long been known to affect the circulation and better circulation can improve your sensory perception. But I know hypnotists who have used it to improve vision maybe not permanently, but definitely over the long-term.

And hypnosis affects your beliefs about what is possible. That is what my next workshop will be about. Improving your memory with hypnosis and other techniques.

Memory Tips 1

I am preparing a presentation for Memory Tips, A to Z.

The A-B-Cs of Memory?

I like that title.

I came across another article today about how our diet affects our memory. Today's article was about preventing dementia by eating fish and cruciferous vegetables several times per week. It seems what is good for your body is also good for your mind, and your memory!

Omega-3 fatty acids are the substances that are good for you in fish and cruciferous vegetables.

I can put that in my presentation under O.

Just 25 more letters to go!
